According to a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the American armed forces executed a fatal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a deadly attack on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was transiting along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”

Context and Recent Actions

This announcement comes a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, vowing to increase the military presence.

Only on the previous day, US defense officials said it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Actions Amidst Pressure

The government has faced growing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the bounds of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has stated the operation is about stopping drugs headed to the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to suggest a broader geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
