Trump Calls Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Personnel to the White House
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Tragic Shooting
US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president told reporters. “And in the same way with him, recover or not.”
Community Response
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the individual that instructors desired. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of her previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event led the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and halt granting entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had bravery,” he informed the crowd at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
