Thrice-crowned MVP Jokic sustains a 'gut-wrenching' injury to his knee.
Triple National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic sustained a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Nuggets lost 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
The star player was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half during an inadvertent coming together with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
Jones stepped on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately collapsed to the floor grabbing his knee.
The 30-year-old, that tops the league season in rebounds and assists, posted 21 points and eight assists in the matchup before incurring the problem.
The player is scheduled for an MRI scan on Tuesday to evaluate the severity of the injury.
"Instantly, Jokic realized he was hurt," stated Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Any player who is injured, that's tough to see, especially somebody as important as he is. More information will come tomorrow."
"We will continue together. Obviously, right now, I'm more concerned just about him as a person and the letdown of experiencing an event like that."
