The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
