New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was āpositiveā during a recent discussion.
āWhat reassures me, is that heās in good spirits,ā Glenn stated on Wednesday. āHis wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.ā
The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.
āNot certain at the moment,ā he added. āYet I must mention, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and heās talking that way.ā
Authorities shared security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.
The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The assailant escaped.
Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts āa great dealā since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.
āThe first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,ā Glenn said. āAnd Iām thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that heās OK. And thatās the only thing that really went through my mind.
āThereās a process to this, which I wonāt get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.ā
Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.
He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.
āHeās been a part of what weāre doing,ā Glenn commented. āIn fact, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.ā
Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and then joined Houstonās practice squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
