New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was ā€œpositiveā€ during a recent discussion.

ā€œWhat reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,ā€ Glenn stated on Wednesday. ā€œHis wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.ā€

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

ā€œNot certain at the moment,ā€ he added. ā€œYet I must mention, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.ā€

Authorities shared security footage earlier this week of a suspect in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, police said. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts ā€œa great dealā€ since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

ā€œThe first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,ā€ Glenn said. ā€œAnd I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
ā€œThere’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.ā€

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

ā€œHe’s been a part of what we’re doing,ā€ Glenn commented. ā€œIn fact, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.ā€

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
